Why animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos- By Kezia

I strongly believe that animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos. Put yourself in the animals’ shoes. Would you like to be locked away in a gigantic metal cage, hidden away from the world?

To begin with, most animals prefer to be in a paddock, field or just somewhere where they can be free. Take an elephant for example, they would want to be in a forest, savannah or even a desert. This has two advantages, the elephant is happy, and the people that used to go to the zoo still get to see the elephant.

Next, Zoos don’t provide the animals natural habitats, and the climate could be wrong for them. This could risk their lives severely. Almost 500 animals have died in zoos in just 4 years. A polar bear is supposed to be in the Arctic, not Christchurch, for people to stare at all day.

Another reason is that when they are shut away in dark enclosures, the animals can be put in stress. They won’t be able to get sunlight. Also, they wouldn’t learn the basic skills to survive in the wild, especially if they were born in the zoo.

As you can see,  freedom, climate and\ sunlight they are all reasons why I believe that our animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos. So, what are you waiting for? Free the animals!
